John Banes

John Banes is a seasoned legal advisor with extensive experience guiding corporate clients, financial institutions, and their boards through complex financing transactions, regulatory obligations, and governance challenges. As a corporate partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP for over twenty years—and more recently as senior counsel—John has led teams across global offices, including London, where he advised multinational companies on navigating legal and compliance risks in cross-border environments.

Throughout his career, John has partnered with white-collar colleagues on high-profile internal investigations and enforcement actions, delivering counsel on disclosure, compliance, and risk management at the highest levels. He brings to THEIA a keen understanding of the evolving regulatory landscape and a global perspective shaped by decades of practical experience.

John holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and an A.B. from Princeton University.
